DoC on WHA Resolution deadline: July 13
Dear Public Policy Coordinators,
We need your help and the turnaround time is very fast! The U.S. Breast Committee is compiling organizational signatures on a letter to HHS Secretary Azar and Department of Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross expressing concern about reports that the U.S. delegation to the World Health Assembly undermined a global resolution aimed at supporting breastfeeding. The letter calls upon the U.S. government to ensure that policy decisions and actions are based on current scientific evidence, free from industry influence and carried out in accordance to global trade agreements and international law. The letter is aligned with the position of the Academy that breastfeeding provides optimal nutrition and health protection for infants and that it is an important public health strategy for improving infant and child morbidity and mortality, and improving maternal morbidity.
The Academy is encouraging Affiliates to sign on before the deadline on Friday, July 13. Please be sure to follow your affiliates process for seeking approval and complete approval from before signing on directly with USBC.
Also, please circulate and post to your communication channels. National, state, and local organizations are invited to sign on.
For inquires on how to add your organization to the letter and/or for additional information, contact Stefanie Winston Rinehart.
